At the Maharaja's Table: Dining Aboard the Palace on Wheels
Two dining cars, one royal table
The Palace on Wheels carries two restaurant cars — the Maharaja and the Maharani — each richly panelled and set with linen, crystal and the crests of Rajputana. All meals are included in the fare, from breakfast to a candlelit dinner every night.
A menu that spans India and beyond
The kitchens serve Rajasthani, Mughlai, Continental and Chinese cuisine, so a single week takes you from the fiery laal maas and dal-baati of the desert to delicate Mughlai kebabs and international favourites. Regional specialities appear as the train crosses their home states.
Royal touches
- Traditional welcome drinks and high tea
- Themed and gala dinners on board
- Occasional meals in heritage palaces and hotels during excursions
Dietary needs
Vegetarian, Jain and other dietary requirements are readily catered for — Indian cuisine is famously rich in vegetarian tradition — and the crew are happy to accommodate requests given a little notice. Hungry for the full experience? See the dining and lounge cars.
